What Do My Colleagues Do All Day?

HSI® Work, Posts

Do you ever sit at work and wonder, “What do my colleagues do all day?” Yesterday, HSI had its 2016 Project Briefing Day. We do this once a year to get updated on what neat and innovative research projects our consultants worked on over the past year. Not only does this day answer the question above, it gives us a reason to brag about how cool our work is, and how hard we work at it!

The projects presented yesterday – nearly 30 of them – spanned a wide variety of topic areas. One project talked about the anthropometric measures of head size and nose bridges in determining the ideal configuration for Virtual Reality headsets. Another was about neck strain in helicopter pilots; did you know some pilots actually use their fist to hold their head up while under fatigue from too much neck strain while flying? My personal favourite was one about survivability in combat – assessing running speed against shot accuracy to determine the probability of getting hit. Seriously, how intense is that?

Perhaps the most important part of Project Briefing Day is that it reminds us all at HSI about how important our work is. Our work can directly impact decisions that organizations and governments make when it comes to procurement, policies, and training. And these decisions can protect from injury and save lives.

Feel free to email us if you are curious about other work we have done, or have questions about how we can help your organization. People are the most important part of any system. Promoting human performance and well-being is what we do.
